character-bunny Semillitas de Aprendizaje offers a unique bilingual set of early childhood materials. Each story of the theme-based supplemental curriculum encourages the richness of language and print. It is designed to help early childhood teachers and parents encourage communication and language exploration through literature discussions in both Spanish and English.

The curriculum reflects elements of Ellen Galinsky’s seven essential life skills every child needs to thrive as life-long learners and to take on life’s challenges. These skills give children the ability to focus on goals, expand their intellectual capacity, cultivate strong, positive self-esteem and stimulate intellectual curiosity. Using culturally appropriate and robust language encourages children to learn easily and communicate what they have learned.

Semillitas de Aprendizaje also incorporates the Head Start Early Childhood competency indicators through literacy center activities that focus on listening and understanding, speaking and communicating, phonological awareness, comprehension, book knowledge and use, and print knowledge and emergent writing.

10 Big Books

With rich vocabulary, each book tells its beautiful story in English and in Spanish.

Designed for early childhood and primary grades, the stories feature children and other characters who discover new things like life in the country, learning about spiders, first aid kits, the seasons, geometric shapes at home, traditional beading, a dancing ostrich, counting critters, a circus dream and gold mining. The 10 Semillitas de Aprendizaje™ Big Books are the abridged versions of the stories with English and Spanish text appearing on the same page for reading aloud with the class. These are complemented by the 10 Semillitas de Aprendizaje™ Storybooks, which are two books in one with the unabridged versions of each story in English and in Spanish appearing separately.

This set of 15 small books is designed for classroom and home use.

The books feature photos of farm animals and focus on numeracy and social-emotional development. Each book includes basic concepts, questions and vocabulary (Spanish, English).

20 Cartitas – Letters Home

A set of 20 letters (10 English, 10 Spanish) for teachers to send home for parents.

Each letter has activities related the Semillitas de Aprendizaje stories, such as great ways to bring the story home like book sharing, the art of play, and healthy traditions in your family. The letters include a section on celebrating heritage and culture and a space for the teacher to share what the child loved to do in school this month.

Teacher Guide (Manual de Maestro)

This teacher guide contains 10 units in 196 pages to support early childhood bilingual literacy development.

To lead your students through the Semillitas de Aprendizaje stories, each unit has a set of classroom activities that include a morning song, storytelling, literacy connection with STEM explorations, center activities, phonemic awareness, writing and alphabet knowledge, English transition, family connections and informal assessment. In addition, we have provided planning tools connected to knowledge, skill and concept objectives along with suggestions for using technology in early childhood. This guide is designed to correspond to the set of 10 Semillitas de Aprendizaje bilingual Big Books and Storybooks, the Cartitas series (letters home) and the 15 books in the Preschool Math Set..

Storytelling & Storyreading Videos DVD

Both storytelling and storyreading support learning in the classroom and provide different kinds of literacy experiences for students.

This DVD is the newest feature of IDRA’s bilingual (Spanish/English) supplemental early childhood curriculum. The engaging DVD contains the 10 Semillitas de Aprendizaje™ stories told in two styles: storyreading (in English) and storytelling (in Spanish). Each story in Spanish is preceded by an opening gathering song and followed by a closing song.
